Description

Hot Dog Reporter is a (very early access) game about a hot dog in a hurry. It's a fast paced platformer with a speedrun mode that will eventually turn into a metroidvania with a mystery to solve and charmingly weird characters to meet (and a speedrun mode). Once the linear levels are iterated on enough to finalize Hot Dog Reporter's mechanics, gameplay will begin to spill onto the sprawling, interconnected streets of New Yorkshire City

History

Hot Dog Reporter is a labor of love inspired by some of the greatest platformers and metroidvanias on the planet. After working on the follow-up to Great. bit by bit over the course of three years, the project went into overdrive following the film industry grinding to a halt again, thanks to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers being utterly unreasonable about meeting the demands of their writers and actors. A direction for the narrative and art style solidified, and Unity was dropped in favor of Godot (oh boy did that end up being a fortunate choice!). Starting development over from scratch, Hot Dog Reporter's core movement and play style came together very quickly. After a month of staying up embarrassingly late working on, a very early build with a handful of levels was released for free on Itch.io, mostly for friends and family to try it out. Seeing players not only genuinely enjoy it, but compete for top speedrunning times, became an incredible motivator to create the best game about a fast-moving hot dog possible.
